Description:

CD2v protein, also named PEP402R, is encoded by the EP402R gene with a relative molecular weight of 105 kDa. CD2v is a glycoprotein which is composed of a signal peptide, trans-membrane region, and two immunoglobulin-like domains. The cytosolic C-terminal domain of CD2v (CD2v-Ct) shares no obvious identity of amino acid sequence with that of the cellular CD2 cytoplasmic domain. The ASFV CD2v contains all the domains present in cellular CD2 and some of the residues involved in binding to its natural ligand, the cell adhesion molecule CD58/LFA-3. Most of the expressed CD2v protein is located within cells rather than on the cell surface. CD2v is located around viral factories during ASFV infection. CD2v protein is involved in cell-cell adhesion, virulence enhancement and immune response modulation. Additionally, the function of lymphocytes can be damaged by CD2v protein.
